About Garcua Garlic

Garcua is one of the most rewarding Artichoke softneck varieties you can grow — impressively productive, strikingly beautiful, and packed with bold, traditional garlic flavor. Its large, globe-shaped bulbs with creamy-white outer wrappers and 15–18 oval-shaped cloves make it a standout both in the garden and in the kitchen. One of the most beginner-friendly varieties we carry, Garcua delivers reliably high yields season after season with minimal fuss, making it an excellent choice for first-time garlic growers and seasoned gardeners alike.

Flavor Profile

Strong, intense, and deeply traditional — Garcua delivers the bold, classic garlic flavor that anchors a dish and makes everything taste better. It's versatile enough for everyday cooking yet powerful enough to be the star of the show. Excellent roasted whole into a rich, caramelized spread, minced raw into dressings and marinades, or slow-cooked into soups and sauces where its depth of flavor builds beautifully over time.

Best Growing Zones

Garcua thrives in USDA hardiness zones 5–9, making it one of the most adaptable softneck varieties we offer. It handles cold winters well while also thriving in warmer climates — a true all-zones performer. Gardeners across the Midwest, South, Mid-Atlantic, and Pacific Coast will find it a reliable, high-yielding choice. Plant in sunny, well-drained soil for best results.

Planting Instructions

Plant in fall between September and December depending on your zone. Separate bulbs into individual cloves just before planting. Plant 2 inches deep, pointed end up, spaced 6 inches apart in rows 12 inches apart. Mulch lightly in colder zones. Garcua is a vigorous, robust grower that produces large, healthy plants through spring and harvests in early summer. Its soft, pliable stalk makes it ideal for braiding at harvest.

Storage & Curing

Garcua stores for up to 12 months when properly cured — outstanding storage life that makes it a true year-round kitchen staple. After harvest, cure in a warm, dry, well-ventilated space out of direct sunlight for 3–4 weeks. Its soft stalk is ideal for braiding — braid immediately after harvest before the stalks dry out. Store braided or loose in a cool, dry location with good airflow. Do not refrigerate.
